About Me

Confidentiality:
As a client, one of your most important rights is that of confidentiality. Information obtained during therapy sessions will be held confidential, and will not be disclosed to anyone outside of therapy without your written consent. If you are attending therapy as part of a couple or family, you may at times see Karen Haynes Gutherless, MA, MACC, LMHP, CPC, without your partner or other family members present.  In this instance, if information is divulged to Karen Haynes Gutherless, MA, MACC, LMHP, CPC, which she thinks is important for you to share with your partner or other family members, or if you present a situation which is blatantly harmful, unfair, or unethical, she may: (1) ask you to divulge this information before therapy continues, (2) ask your permission to divulge the information before therapy continues, or (3) discontinue therapy if options (1) or (2) are not met.  There are also a few exceptions to confidentiality as defined by law to which you need to be aware. Karen Haynes Gutherless, MA, MACC, LMHP, CPC, will be required to break confidentiality if one or more of the following conditions exist:
1. If Karen Haynes Gutherless, MA, MACC, LMHP, CPC, has reason to think that you (clients involved in therapy) may be harmful to yourself or others. 
2. If Karen Haynes Gutherless, MA, MACC, LMHP, CPC, suspects that child abuse or neglect has occurred.
3. If a court orders the release of information regarding your treatment.

Additional Considerations:
            To insure quality control in therapy, Karen Haynes Gutherless, MA, MACC, LMHP, CPC, reserves the right to consult with therapist-colleagues regarding your treatment. This is similar to a physician getting a “second opinion," and can be very helpful in therapeutic treatment. If consultation occurs, identifying information, such as your surname, will not be discussed during these consultations.
            Because our community is small, it is important that you realize you may see Karen Haynes Gutherless, MA, MACC, LMHP, CPC, outside of the therapeutic setting. In these cases, Karen will respect your confidentiality by only acknowledging you as a person in the community and avoid engaging you in a dialogue about your life. Karen Haynes Gutherless, MA, MACC, LMHP, CPC, prefers you to schedule an appointment or contact her by telephone if you need to talk with her. However, if you decide to disclose information to Karen Haynes Gutherless, MA, MACC, LMHP, CPC, while out in the community, the information you choose to share may be overheard, and thus your confidentiality would not be secured.
            Because part of the goal of therapy is to protect confidentiality, Karen Haynes Gutherless, MA, MACC, LMHP, CPC, asks that you do not have your attorney subpoena her testimony regarding divorce or child custody, in the event of such hearings.

Qualifications

Experience
Karen Haynes Gutherless, MA, MACC, LMHP, CPC, received her master’s degree in Christian counseling from the Columbia Evangelical Seminary, from Longview WA in 2000. She completed that program in an internship out of Denver Colorado under the supervision of Dr. Harvey Powers and several other mental health therapist.  Karen Haynes Gutherless, MA, MACC, LMHP, CPC also has a masters in community counseling from Chadron State College, from Chadron NE in 2008. Karen now holds a certification as a professional Christian Counselor through the AACC Board of Professional Christian Counselors and a LMHP and CPC through the State of Nebraska. The majority of her experience is working with children, individuals, and families. Her theoretical orientation includes Individual processes, family systems theory, which focuses on the relationships people have, both within and outside their families. Karen Haynes Gutherless, MA, MACC, LMHP, CPC, tends to focus on family strengths, and within her work, she does not utilize blame, but rather helps people develop their strengths (individual, child, couple, and family) to overcome or manage their problems.  An area that Karen Haynes Gutherless, MA, MACC, LMHP, CPC, is well versed with is that she works with individuals on dealing with grief and trauma by resolving the past to be free in the present.
Karen Haynes Gutherless, MA, MACC, LMHP, CPC, is not a physician, and cannot prescribe or provide any medication. If medical treatment is indicated, she will recommend a physician or psychiatrist to you, depending upon the nature of your concerns.
